Embedded Question 

An embedded question is a question that is included inside another question or statement. They are common after introductory phrases, such as:

Una pregunta incrustada es una pregunta que se incluye dentro de otra pregunta o declaración. Son comunes después de frases introductorias, como:

- I would like to know..._______________Me gustaría saber...
- Can you tell me?___________________¿Me puede decir

- I wonder?__________________________Me pregunto?

- Could you tell me? _________________Podría decirme?

- Do you know...?_____________________Tú sabes...?

Claves:

1.  (Where is the library?) is just a regular question in which the word order is verb and then subject

The word order for an embedded qustion is subject and then verb.

Where is the library? REGULAR

.....where the library is       EMBEDDED

Example     

      WH QUESTION

                                Where is the station?             ¿Dónde está la estación?

                      Could you tell me where the station is?

                                                                  ¿Podría decirme dónde está la estación?

   YES\NO QUESTION (DO, DOES, DID,WAS)

The auxiliary do, does, did are used in embedded question is elminated

and add "If" (se convierte  los verbos conforme al tiempo verbal que estaba hablando el auxiliar)

1.      Does she cook well?

              

       Do yo know if she cooks well

2.    Did we play soceer last week?

      Could you tell me if we played last week?

3.   Was she your teacher?

     I wonder if she was your teacher      (Excepción aqui no se elimina el auxiliar porque                                                                         cumple la función de verbo)
